Our Story

The Ron Thompson Jail and Prison Ministry (RTJPM) is a Christ-centered ministry; our main purpose is to share the Biblical teachings of the marvelous gift of salvation with everyone.

Developed by and supported by Christians to help bring lost souls to a saving knowledge of Christ and help young Christians grow in the knowledge of God’s grace and the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

Dr. Ronald G. Thompson

Founder

1938 – 2008

Ronald Garrett Thompson was born in the townland of Magheraconluce in County Down, Northern Ireland. He was the fourth of five children born to Annetta Hamilton and Reverend Samuel Thompson, a Baptist minister. His parents instilled in him a love for God and a thirst for knowledge which developed into his lifelong joy of learning and teaching. After high school, Ron enrolled at Stetson University; by 1964 he had become a naturalized citizen of the United States and resumed undergraduate education at Florida State University. During graduate studies, Ron’s eyes were opened to the Grace of God. In 1969 after receiving his Master of Arts, he was given a position teaching art at Rollins College. By 1973, Ron became an ordained Baptist minister and moved to New Orleans to study at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. While in Seminary, he was selected for his first preaching position as the pastor of Bethany Baptist Church. Ron remained in New Orleans for nine years and earned his Masters of Divinity and then a Doctorate of Theology. Returning to Central Florida in 1982, Ron started teaching at Pine Hills Christian Academy and soon became a member of the First Baptist Church of Pine Hills. It was during this time, while serving at the church as minister of new members, that he first became involved with several prison ministries, setting the stage for Ron Thompson Jail & Prison Ministry. Later Ron became the pastor of Vineland Baptist and Woodhaven Baptist in Orlando, FL, but he always felt more at home with ministry through teaching. In the late eighties, he became an art teacher at the Orange County Jail and began the development of a Bible correspondence course which is now known as the “Studies in Grace” and “Divinity of Christ” series. The Lord has blessed this ministry, and with the help of others, it continues to reach people here and around the world with the truth of God’s Grace.

Our Statement of Faith

What we believe

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, only infallible, authoritative Word of God. It is the supreme and final authority for faith and practice.

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are of one substance and equal in power and glory.

We believe in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God and inherent in the original writings and that they are the supreme and final authority by which all human opinions, creeds or conduct shall be tried and judged.

We believe that Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity, was both fully man and fully God. We believe in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned in Adam, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and, in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, manifest them as sinners in thought, word and deed.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures as a representative and a substitute sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the basis of His precious blood shed on Calvary’s cross.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ who has ascended into heaven, and ever lives to intercede for us as our High Priest.

We believe that salvation is a free gift of God and is received by grace alone and faith alone - that genuine faith always leads us to do good works.

We believe that all who have received the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and have become children of God and members of the body of Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. The Church is comprised of the universal church and local church. The universal church is the worldwide body of believers. The local church is a specific body of believers established for worship, instruction, fellowship and expression of our faith.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved unto the resurrection of life and those who are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the imminent return of Jesus and that those who have believed in Him will be resurrected to a heavenly dwelling in an incorruptible body and those who do not believe will join Satan and his host in everlasting punishment.
